The Shrewsbury Bridge badge The Shrewsbury BridgeLocal newsletter & what's on

Shrewsbury, Shropshire

Everything on in town, in one place.

A free weekly email about what's happening in Shrewsbury — and a free WhatsApp line that answers “what's on today?” in seconds.

Free, both of them. No advertising beyond a clearly-labelled boost, no app to install. Funded by readers and a few named local businesses. Reply STOP to the WhatsApp line and it stops.

The weekly email arrives from albert@shrewsburybridge.com — worth adding to your contacts so it doesn't get filed as spam. Anything you want to ask a person goes to annie@shrewsburybridge.com.

The Shrewsbury Bridge

What's inside

Dogs running in a park, printed in pink
A toddler in dungarees, printed in blue
Pets — rehoming appeals, dog shows, volunteering
Toddlers & kids — what's on for the under-fives

Two of the sections people asked for most, alongside the week's events, openings and the things worth leaving the house for.

How it works

Nothing to install and nothing to learn. If you can send a text message, you can use this.

1

Message the number

Save +44 7460 092502 and send it anything — “hi” is enough. Tap the menu if you'd rather not type.

2

Ask in your own words

“What's on for the kids this weekend?”, “anything at the theatre?”, “music tonight?” — no commands, no codes.

3

Get events, with links

A short numbered list — what, where, when — with a link under each one so you can check the details yourself.

What it actually looks like

A real exchange from the line. One message back, a handful of lines, a link under each one.

The line answers with the facts it has gathered — event, venue, time — and sends you to the organiser's own page rather than describing an event in someone else's words.

Where the listings come from

Worth being straight about, because most what's-on services aren't. Every listing comes from one of two places, and we say which.

Public pages and feeds

  • Venue and organiser pages that publish their own calendar
  • Feeds published for machines to read — the theatre's own listings feed, RSS, calendar feeds
  • Council and civic pages

We take the facts — name, date, time, venue — and link to the source. Never someone's words, never their photographs.

Organisers, directly

  • We ask organisers for permission to list what they run — a one-word “yes” is enough
  • Organisers can send us events to add at any time
  • Ask once to be removed and we don't list you again

This is the half we're building: the one-off events in church halls and community centres that nobody can find anywhere.

Run something in Shrewsbury?

Send it over and we'll include it — free, with a link to your own page. If you'd rather we didn't list you, tell us once and that's the end of it.

Boost

Reading The Shrewsbury Bridge is free and stays free — the weekly email and the WhatsApp line, for everyone, always. Listing is free too. If you run a shop, a venue or an event in town and you want more people to see it, you can pay to boost it: a featured boost at the top of the listing, with more pizzazz, in the email and on the WhatsApp line, clearly labelled, so nobody is ever sold to without knowing.

1

A featured boost

Your event at the top of the what's-on list for the week it happens, with more pizzazz than a plain entry and the label on it.

2

In the email and the app

Seen by everyone on the newsletter list, and by the people already asking on the WhatsApp line.

3

One rate for both

A single price covers the newsletter and the WhatsApp line — nobody pays twice for the two.

Who pays for this

You don't. The weekly email and the WhatsApp line are free and always will be, and there is no advertising in either — only clearly-labelled boosts.
